2019 winter concert

The fall concert of the CCSF Masterworks Chorale will be at 7 p.m., Thurs., Dec. 12, 2019, in the Rosenberg Library at the Ocean Ave. campus of the City College of San Francisco. Admission is free.

Focusing on works in English by American and British composers, major works include Benjamin Britten’s “Rejoice in the Lamb,” and William Byrd’s “O Magnum Mysterium.”

Also on the program is “helves surling,” a fascinating but little-heard work by Bay Area composer David Ahlstrom, with lyrics by poet E. E. Cummings. Another Bay Area composer, Randal Collen, will be represented by his jazz-inflected work “The Teaching.”

In addition, there will be shorter works by Charles Ives, Edward Elgar, and William Billings, along with seasonal music celebrating both Hanukah and Christmas.

2019 spring concert

The City College of San Francisco Masterworks Chorale 2019 spring concert will be held on Thursday, May 9, at 7 p.m., in the Rosenberg Library of CCSF’s Ocean Avenue campus. Parking is available in the CCSF lot off Phelan Ave. opposite the campus. Admission is free.

Featured works include the Misa Criolla by Argentinian composer Ariel Ramírez (1921-2010), and Reseunen los Clarines by Mexican composer Manuel de Zumaya (c. 1678-1755). The second half of the program will feature works by French composers Gabriel Faure and Maurice Ravel.

2018 winter concert announced

The City College of San Francisco Masterworks Chorale has scheduled its 2018 winter concert for Thursday, December 6, at 7 p.m.

Featured music will include the wonderful motet Lobet den Herrn by J. S. Bach and the Magnificat in C by J. C. Bach, as well as recent works by Ola Gjeilo and Jens Klimek.
